The Transformative Death: Embracing Endings That Lead to Rebirth

I was having a conversation with a friend recently, and he asked about my dad’s death. This caught me off guard. After I received the news, I spent a long time trying to avoid thinking about it. There is a certain acceptance that comes with realising you will never hear from or see someone again. However, as I’ve learned more about life, I’ve gained a new perspective on this experience. I have come to understand that death can be in different forms.

The word “death” often carries a negative connotation. For many, it evokes the feelings of fear, anxiety, anger and reflection. However, it shouldn’t always be associated with negative emotions. Another broader definition of death is the permanent end of something that is not alive. This definition opened my eyes to other kinds of endings in life.

This interpretation reminds us that the word is not always about people or living things. It can also refer to the end of something that no longer serves us, such as the death of a bad habit or the end of fear. In this sense, we can say there can be a “Transformative death”, and it is an event we experience frequently at every stage of our lives, like the death of our old selves. An example is Mike Posner, the artist behind the hit song “I Took a Pill in Ibiza,” in his viral tweet who wrote in his viral tweet about becoming a new man through letting go of his old self.

With that in mind, I hope you experience the end of limiting beliefs, the death of fear, the end of people-pleasing, the death of ego, and grow to a new person.

May you experience the transformative death of your former self, letting go of limiting beliefs and habits that no longer serve you.
